| Abstract: |
| Objective: To explore the research status and hot trends in the field of international children’s medication literacy, and to
provide reference for the research on children’s medication literacy in China. Methods: A systematic literature search on children’s
medication literacy from database establishment to 2025 was conducted, followed by a bibliometric visualization analysis by using
VOSviewer 1. 6. 20 and CiteSpace 6. 1. R6. Results: A total of 1,764 articles (1,252 in English and 512 in Chinese) were included,
indicating that the field of children’s medication literacy was in a stage of rapid development globally. The United States had the highest
number of publications worldwide, followed by China. The most prominent contributing teams were led by Zhang Lingli at West China
Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, and Wang Xiaoling at Beijing Children’ s Hospital, Capital Medical University.
Internationally, studies were predominantly published in journals of pediatrics, public health, and medical informatics, while in China,
research was primarily concentrated in pharmacy and nursing journals. Keywords clustering identified 13 thematic groups in English and 12 in Chinese. Research hot spots at home and abroad focused on health literacy, medication adherence, and populations such as
children and parents. In recent years, the research focus had shifted toward topics including the mental health and social support of
adolescents and caregivers. Conclusion: It is imperative for China to initiate extensive cross-regional and global partnerships, leveraging
a mixed-methods framework and AI technologies. This strategy will target critical areas including the root-cause analysis of guardians’
poor medication literacy, educational interventions, development of medication literacy skills in school-aged children, psychosocial
management for chronic conditions, and intelligent system development, aiming to promote high-quality progress in the field of
international children’s medication literacy in China. |
