Abstract:
Objective: To probe into the effects of prenatal exposure to dexamethasone on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in offspring. Methods: From Oct. 2022 to Apr. 2024, totally 102 children with suspected ADHD who complained of inattention or hyperactivity were extracted from our hospital, with 86 children confirmed of ADHD. According to the application of dexamethasone before delivery, the patients were divided into the dexamethasone exposure group (20 cases) and the non-dexamethasone exposure group (66 cases). The SNAP-Ⅳ score and Weiss’s functional defect severity score were used to evaluate the status and detect the nutritional level of children. Results: The SNAP-Ⅳ score and Weiss’ s functional defect severity score in the dexamethasone exposure group were obviously higher than those in the non-dexamethasone exposure group ( P < 0. 05). the serum levels of 25 hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) in the dexamethasone exposure group were significantly lower than those in the non-dexamethasone exposure group ( P < 0. 05), and lead ( Pb) was significantly higher than that in the non-dexamethasone exposure group (P<0. 05). Conclusion: Prenatal exposure to dexamethasone is associated with the occurrence of ADHD and nutritional level in children.
