| Abstract: |
| Objective: To compare the bowel cleansing efficacy of different doses of polyethylene glycol (PEG) electrolyte powder
solution and standardized bowel preparation protocols for pediatric colonoscopy. Methods: A total of 135 children who underwent
painless colonoscopy in our hospital from Jan. 2024 to Jul. 2025 were extracted to be divided into the control group (68 cases, with
high-dose PEG electrolyte powder solution for bowel preparation) and observation group (67 cases, with low-dose PEG electrolyte
powder solution for bowel preparation) via the random number table method. The Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) score,
completion rate of PEG electrolyte powder solution, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score of abdominal pain, and incidence of adverse drug
reactions were compared between two groups. Results: The BBPS score of observation group was higher than that of control group (t =
0. 982, P =0. 328). The completion rate of PEG electrolyte powder in observation group was higher than that in control group, and the
VAS score of abdominal pain was lower than that in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0. 05). The
incidences of nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension and abdominal pain in observation group were lower than those in control group (P
<0. 05). Conclusion: High-dose and low-dose PEG electrolyte solution achieve comparable bowel cleansing efficacy for colonoscopy in
children. However, children with low-dose bowel preparation have higher compliance and lower incidence of adverse drug reactions.
Standardized bowel preparation management is conducive to improving the efficacy of bowel preparation. |
