Abstract:
Objective: To statistics anti-streptolysin “O” (ASO) in children, and to explore the ASO positive rate in different age, different gender and different season, so that to take the effective prevention of streptococcal infection and post streptococcal disease. Methods: 4,052 children with ASO detected from pediatrics department of our hospital from January to December 2013 were studied. Then a statistical analysis about the test results of ASO was made. Results: Among the 4,052 children with ASO detected, the positive rate was 17.18%. The positive rate of ASO in male and female were 19.76% and 13.47%, respectively, and there was a significant difference between the two groups (χ2=27.247, P<0.01). ASO accounted for 42.02% in the 9~12 age with the highest positive rate. Followed by 6~9 and 12~15 age, the positive rate was 33.80% and 30.67% respectively. The positive rate was 0.47% in 0~3 age with the lowest positive rate. There was a significant difference among different age stage (χ2=761.643, P<0.01). ASO had the highest positive rate in the first quarter, accounting for 19.37%, followed by the fourth quarter and the second quarter, the positive rate was 18.84% and 16.69% respectively, ASO positive rate in the fourth quarter was the lowest (14.14%). There was a significant difference among each quarter (χ2=11.677, P<0.017). Conclusion: Streptococcal infection is the most in the school-age children, and rare in infants. Streptococcal infection rate is higher in boys than girls. Streptococcal infection prones in the winter and early spring.
